Cops win 4-3 on pens
(Cops are sponsored by Greenscape Energy)
In an amazing turnaround Cops bounced back from a lacklustre first half, in which they had their keeper sent off, to win the Cup in a penalty shoot out.
Claydon were much the better side early on and but for Callum Deacon in the Cops goal they would have been ahead. However, when Deacon left his area to block an attacker’s shot he was deemed to have handled the ball and saw red!
Charlie King was sacrificed in order for Will Pullen to enter the game and don the gloves.
From the resulting free kick Claydon took the lead as the low shot flew past Pullen.
Cops got themselves organised after this blow and towards the end of the half forced some corners. Cops looked dangerous and from another James Abbott corner the ball was knocked out to Lewis Burgen who picked his spot to put Cops level. HT 1-1.
Cops looked a different side in the second half as they took the game to Claydon. The introduction of Euan Lister and Jake Howells improved the tempo for Cops and Ty Read was a constant threat up front. Claydon still had plenty of the ball and Will Pullen’s handling had to be spot on as he coolly collected several crosses and shots.
The Claydon keeper made an error which allowed Jordan King, who was a tireless runner throughout, to take the ball off him and score to put Cops into the lead. This didn’t last long as Bultitude fired home an equaliser two minutes later. With the game heading for penalties Cops reintroduced Elliott Young and he rattled the woodwork before Cops again hit the post as they were desperately unlucky not to take the lead. FT 2-2.
The game went to penalties and Will Pullen made a brilliant save to put Cops in the driving seat. Successful pens by Jordan King, Ewan Miller, James Abbott and Elliott Young saw Cops win 4-3!
