Three ties involving SIL Clubs were played on Saturday, all being decided by a penalty shoot out. All ties involved teams from other leagues. Coplestonians played Anglian Combination side Mutford & Wrentham, finally losing out in a penalty shoot out. Mutford took the lead in the first half, and increased it in the second half. Coplestonians continued to battle and were rewarded when a good strike from Jonny Linnard found the back of the Mutford net. With the game heading into the final seconds Keiran Driver looped a header into the corner of the Mutford net to take the tie to a penalty shoot out. Sadly for Coplestonians they missed one penalty while Mutford converted all of theirs to progress to the semi-finals.
Haughley United fought back from 2-0 down against Thurlow Nunn Leiston U23’s to draw 3-3 after 90 minutes and progressed via a penalty shoot out.
Henley Athletic took an early lead against high flying Thurlow Nunn Div 1 side Kings Park Rangers, but were pegged back to finish 1-1 after 90 minutes. They progressed to the semi-finals after a penalty shoot out.
The league would like to send condolences to the family and all connected to Kings Park Rangers on the sad news of their player who is in hospital on a life support machine having suffered a bleed on the brain (unrelated to football). SIL Committee member Steve White of Henley very kindly sponsored the match, all monies raised going to a Go Fund me account to allow the players family to travel from Nigeria to be at his bedside.
