Coplestonians’ revival continued with a 5-0 win at Henley. Connor Mackay hit a hat-trick with Cops other goals coming from Jonny Linard and Baden Holmes.
A youthful looking Debenham went down to a 3-1 defeat at home to East Bergholt and fell to the bottom of the table. The Hornets opened the scoring only for Zach Elseidy and Will Roblin to put Bergholt in front. After a Debenham rally Brandon King then made the gave safe for the visitors.

SIL Senior League: Henley Athletic FC 0-5 Coplestonians FC
A crowd of 117 witnessed Henley’s biggest defeat in many a season, as they succumbed to a thoroughly professional performance from a strong Cops side, who appear to have well and truly found their form after early season slip ups.
Henley had the first chance of the game, Ballard’s low shot going just wide of the post on 8 minutes. But on 22 minutes it was Cops who took the lead, Holmes allowed to run from deep and shoot, his shot deceived Read, who could only push it away for Linard to tap home for 0-1. A rare defensive error gifted Cops their 2nd on 35 minutes, Connick stealing the ball from Bell and Mackay firing home for 0-2.
Things went from bad to worse as Henley saw Watling helped off the pitch following a nasty looking collision and landing, on attending hospital we’re sorry to report that he has suffered a suspected ACL injury and will shortly be seeing a specialist. The thoughts and best wishes of all at the club are with him.
The 2nd half started poorly for Henley, Cops had their tails up and were on the attack, Bell blocked Mackay’s opening shot on the goal line, but his follow up found the net for 0-3 after 50 minutes. Cops came close on 60 minutes, hitting the post, but on 65 they further increased their lead Holmes finishing well for 0-4. Henley came close on 70 minutes, Ballard seeing his top corner bound freekick tipped over. Mackay completed his hat trick after 76 minutes, first to the loose ball again in the box to bring the score to 0-5.
Sadly in the last seconds of the game, Cops youngster Pelling, also suffered an injury, which looked nasty, all at Henley send their best wishes for a speedy recovery.
So, a bad day at the office for the Hens, our poorest performance of the season, taken full advantage of by Cops best. But, we’ve done the same, so many times, to Cops and many other sides, so I suppose the law of averages would say, we probably had one coming. So, we’ll take it on the chin, learn from it, and move on the next game.
FEATURED GAME
HALESWORTH TOWN 2 STOWUPLAND FALCONS 1
(SIL SENIOR DIVISION)
HALESWORTH SCORERS:
Joe Clark 24 mins
Toby Payne 66 mins
STOWUPLAND SCORER:
Roman Rampley 69 mins
ATTENDANCE: 86
REFEREE: Gareth Moir.
Halesworth continued their good form as they made it five wins from five in all competitions after a hard-fought game against previously unbeaten Falcons.
This was Halesworth’s first game without prolific striker Pat Summerfield, who is soon to emigrate to Australia.
Falcons were awarded an early free-kick just outside the area only for Jordan Southgate’s effort to be blocked and then Halesworth youngster Tommy Brown worked space for himself before miscuing the finish.
The visitors were dangerous from set-pieces and from one of these Jon Carver powered a header straight at home keeper Alan Anderson.
Halesworth then took the lead on 24 minutes when a fine cross field pass from Reagan King found Joe Clark who cut inside his full-back before rounding keeper Dale Watling at pace before slotting the ball home.
Carver headed over for Falcons soon afterwards and then Hayden Ling went on a mazy run for the hosts only to cross straight at Watling.
Clark could have doubled the lead just before the break but shot wide after Watling partially saved from Ollie Allen.
Rampley nearly got through soon after the restart but Shaun Whiteman made a fine last-ditch tackle. Watling then pushed out Clark’s long-range effort.
Toby Payne did make it 2-0 mid-way through the second period as he ran clear to crash the ball into the roof of the net following a flicked header from Clark to send him clear.
Roman Rampley then pulled a goal back almost immediately with his angled drive finding its way into the bottom corner.
Falcons pushed further forward and Gavin Van Oene rounded Anderson only to shoot across goal.
Deep into injury-time Rampley slammed a 25 yarder off the top of the bar. Allen was then sin-binned for Halesworth leaving the hosts a man light for last couple of minutes and a member of the Halesworth management was also yellow carded on the final whistle as the hosts managed to see the game out.

Ransomes Sports 2 Samuels 3
It was a case of Ransomes throwing away three points from a winning position at half time for the second successive week as Samuels scored a dramatic 90th minute winner to beat Ransomes 3-2, which leaves the home side still searching for their first win of the season.
The drama felt like a distant prospect at half time as Reece Dobson’s opener had given Ransomes the lead during that first period after Samuels had the better of the opening exchanges. Ransomes wrested the initiative on 11 minutes and that all changed. Neil Calver’s diagonal lofted pass found Dobson and the debutant produced an opener of irresistible sweetness to put the home side ahead.
Ransomes then faced stern resistance from the visitors as they looked to increase their lead but along with their own profligacy, they were unable to add to their tally before the break. Lamon Haynes sent over a teasing low cross from the right and it looked all too straight forward for Luke Andrews but he somehow failed to convert at the back post. Within minutes, an identical incident occured with, this time, Samuels conceding a corner to avert the danger.
On 33 minutes, Brandon Archer then struck the post with a header which rebounded back into the grateful arms of the keeper, and those first half moments were to prove crucial as Samuels levelled soon after the interval in spectacular style. Ransomes were quick to restore their lead. Luke Andrews was adjudged to have been fouled in the penalty area and Reece Dobson crashed his spot high past the helpless visiting keeper – it was certainly the tonic Ransomes needed.
Instead, it was Samuels who brought the intensity, winning the duels, and sparking quick transitions as they began to control the game. A penalty award to the visitors following an awkward handball once again saw them level.
The pressure continued on the home side as Samuels hinted at a winner and Ransomes conceded another penalty on 82 minutes. It was a reckless challenge in the box, and one that was not needed to be made, but an excellent save from Jack Friston kept the scores level. The game remained in the balance.
In the 88th minute, Ransomes had a wonderful opportunity to win the game when the ball fell kindly to substitute Ben Hoggarth. His shot from 12 yards was struck true and and with power but was straight at the keeper who made, what turned out to be, a game winning save because two minutes later, Samuels added a third and took the lead for the first time during the match. This was after Ransomes failed to deal with a situation around a free kick that they failed to deal with, which left them pointless, bitterly disappointed and frustrated – it was an emotional end to the game and took the wind out of Ransomes’ sails.
In theory, with the performance Ransomes produced in the thirty minutes leading up to half time, they should never have got to that point, but then, this is football we are talking about. We’ll talk about it, we’ll reflect, and hopefully, we’ll learn as we continue to build the right platform for these 16 and 17 year olds so that the club is in the place where we want to be. Obviously, we want to win, that is the demand of football, but we can only control what we do and how we do it – Ransomes WLL find a way.

Full time: Halesworth Town 2 – 1 Stowupland Falcons
A valiant effort from Town against a well organised Stowupland side. Both teams battled hard for the full 100 minutes played with lots of chances being well defended to limit the goals at both ends. Town once again linked up well all over the pitch, with some brilliant runs being picked out to put the Stowupland defence and keeper under pressure. A good and well earned result in what was a tight game.

COPS COME TO THE PARTY!
Champs overcome by Cops as MacKay notches a treble.
SIL SENIOR DIVISION
Henley Athletic 0 Coplestonians FC 5
(Cops are sponsored by Venue 16)
There was not much to choose between the sides in the early stages with the game being an end to end affair. However, on 22 minutes Baden Holmes ran from the halfway line and his shot deceived the Henley keeper which allowed Jonny Linnard (sponsored by Scott Clarke Vehicle Services) to score from close range. Another defensive error saw Drew Connick dispossess Logan Bell which allowed Connor MacKay (sponsored by Wolfe Powell) to fire home. HT 0-2.
Cops were on the front foot after the break and it was Connor MacKay who gave them a 3-0 lead; his initial shot was blocked but a shot from Connick fell to him to strike home. Henley went forward in search of a way back into the game but Callum Deacon in the Cops goal kept them at bay with a fine save.
On 65 mins it was Baden Holmes (sponsored by Ian Mathews) who finished well to put Cops further ahead and Connor MacKay completed his hattrick on 76 minutes when he latched onto a corner from Adam Todd.
This was a complete performance by Cops with every player on top of his game….it puts Cops up to 10th in the table.
A couple of players looked to have received bad injuries during the game so we send best wishes to James Watling and Jude Pelling for a speedy recovery.
MOTM: Connor MacKay and the whole Cops team!
SIL DIVISION TWO – MATCH REPORT
It’s a Shaw thing as Cops see off the Gnats
Coplestonians Reserves 2 Gipping Gnats 1
(Cops are sponsored by Greenscape Energy)
The Reserves produced their best performance of the season so far in defeating a more than competent Gipping Gnats team on the 3G pitch at Copleston.
Cops opened strongly and could have been 1-0 up in the first minute as Ty Read went through on a “one v one” with the goalkeeper, the latter pulling off a good save.
Coplestonians continued to produce a series of chances but were thwarted by the Gnats goalkeeper on at least three occasions.
Cops finally took the lead on the half hour when the Gnats goalkeeper parried a Ty Read shot but Jack Tierney was the first to react to knock the ball home.
The game was not all one way traffic however as the Gnats produced some good football in coming forward- but the Cops defence of Dan Bradbrook, Adam Shaw, Ewan Miller and Finn Newman, plus goalkeeper Darcy Pleece kept the Gnats forwards at bay with little trouble. HT 1-0
The game pattern continued in the second half with Cops playing some really good football and restricting the Gnats to few chances. At the other end, Cops had several chances to increase their lead – but the Gnats goalkeeper pulled off several good saves.
Cops eventually scored a second when some nice approach play allowed Dan Driver to convert.
Gnats pulled a goal back with five minutes to play , leading to a tense last few minutes – but Cops deservedly held out to gain their first win of the season, with all 16 players having good games.

GET WELL SOON JUDE & JAMES!
The downside of Cops excellent performance on Saturday was an injury to one of their up and coming young players, Jude Pelling. There is a possibility of it being an ACL injury but further news will be forthcoming later in the week. Also suffering from a similar injury during the game was the Henley front man James Watling. Both now have an anxious wait as we send them our best wishes for a speedy recovery.
