Terry Studd

It was with huge sadness that Terry Studd , an unsung local community football hero, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday 14 March 2023 aged 71, following a lengthy stay in hospital.

In his young days, Terry started playing local football for Rushmere FC and Bildeston Rangers. In 1977 Terry and his beloved wife Georgina took over the running of Sproughton Sports FC from Georgina’s father Dennis Mee where Terry continued his playing days. Through their hard work and efforts in 2014 the club proudly celebrated its centenary season.

Over the years, Terry shared, with many players, some great memories at Sproughton Sports F.C including a golden era during which the club won several League and Cup winners medals and the 1ST Team gaining promotion to the Senior Division 1 league. He was very proud when, both 1ST and reserve teams were awarded Giant killer Trophies in the Mick McNeil cup in 1984.

Terry was truly “Mr Sproughton ”, fulfilling more-or-less every role at Sproughton Sports FC over the 50 years of his involvement there, ranging from qualified referee , player , manager ,secretary , barman , and  Groundsman  He was always willing to step up and do whatever was necessary for the running of his beloved Club. Every Saturday morning no matter what the weather conditions were, Terry would be there, putting up the nets, marking the lines or cutting the grass, occasionally he would spoil the players by hanging up the kits in the dressing room. With a reserve team as well, there was certainly not many free weeks for him to relax., but he did enjoy it.

He freely gave his time helping to run the club through the highs and lows, he was a true supporter of local football and those within it. All those that knew Terry will respect and praise his unconditional contribution to Sproughton Sport FC. He was a true, loyal, and genuine footballing man who although will be deeply missed, will also be fondly remembered by so many people.

After Terry & Georgina handed the reins of the club to a younger generation, maybe it was inevitable that without them at the helm , the club would struggle to survive through difficult times and sadly the club folded in 2018.

On behalf of the local football community and everyone who has ever been involved in the club ,  thank you Terry and Rest in Peace

In this God’s Game of Life , Terry was certainly Man of the Match.

Condolences go to Terry’s wife Georgina , their sons , Damian , Leon and  Ryan , his brother Mick and sister Sandra.
